WAUKESHA, Wis.— There was no shortage of cookies at the Waukesha South high school cookie walk Saturday.
The annual fundraiser provides support for the music programs offered at Waukesha South and supports the students' opportunities to take a music-focused trip to Disney. This trip is only offered once every four years.
Members of Waukesha South band were advertising their annual fundraiser, handing out fliers along the Christmas parade route.
Parents of the Waukesha South band usually lead the fundraiser, but organizers wanted them to focus on healing after parade tragedy.
Organizers said rather than cancel the event, alumni, Waukesha South parents and members of the community stepped in to bake cookies, decorate the space and sell the cookies.
“There are good people in this world,” said organizer Vicki Lipinksi. “Together we can come support one another and help the families to focus on their recovery and what they need.”
Lipinksi said this year’s cookie walk serves as a great reminder that a little bit of kindness can go a long way.
Zach Fifield is an alumnus, and said as a former band member, he wanted to lend a helping hand.
“It just kind of hit home, so I wanted to help out the best I could,” said Fifield.
Many came to support and Lipinski said it shows that the community is living up to the true meaning of “Waukesha strong.”
