  • The goal of the treatment is to prevent severe symptoms, avoid hospitalization and lower the death rate from COVID-19

  • Health care officials still say the best prevention for COVID-19 is to get the vaccine

“The monoclonal antibody treatment from Regeneron is 70% effective,” said Marwa Bakr, owner and pharmacist at Infinity Pharmacy.

Her pharmacy was one of the first in the state to receive this drug.

The goal of the treatment is to prevent severe symptoms, avoid hospitalization and lower the death rate from COVID-19. Since getting the treatment, Infinity Pharmacy has received several calls from patients asking for the injections.

“I received 24 doses the first week, we’ve already administered 13 of them within that week,” Bakr said.

The treatment includes four injections that are given during the appointment and then patients must be monitored for an hour after.

There are guidelines that patients must meet to get the treatment:

  • Test positive for COVID-19
  • Be at least 12 years old
  • Must not experience severe symptoms
  • Get the treatment within 10 days of symptoms
  • Have an underlying health condition

Health care officials still say the best prevention for COVID-19 is to get the vaccine.

REGEN-COV is not FDA approved, but it was authorized under an emergency use authorization.
