MILWAUKEE — It's been a long few days for many Wisconsinites cleaning up from back-to-back storms. In the midst of the storm’s aftermath, one West Allis native devoted his time to ensure the neighborhoods in his area were clean.

Chaplain Daniel Nelson has been working hard to cleanup trees and debris in West Allis. He usually works as a Chaplain for veterans, but he said he felt he was being called to give back to the place he calls home.

“When I see an amount of destruction that affects everybody, I just got to get here and to clean up with them and help wherever I can,” said Nelson.

He’s been out since Tuesday night, removing trees from driveways, picking up debris, and preparing areas for city cleanup. Nelson said his work includes caring for all people.

“My job is to make sure that humanity itself is taken care of,” Nelson added.

He said this journey isn’t limited to just storm cleanup, if he’s called to help others, he’ll answer with action.

“It’s been one of the most adventurous and beautiful journeys that I've ever had in my life,” said Nelson.

He said he seeks no reward for his work, for he is doing the work that God has called him to.

“When you're out here doing something for somebody without expecting anything in return, the gratitude and satisfaction on both ends is more than joyous, because people are utterly thankful,” said Nelson.
