BROOKFIELD, Wis.— Craig and Allison Cebulla were busy Friday, putting the finishing touches on baked goods they plan to sell at the Brookfield Farmers' Market on Saturday.
“We will have a variety of hand pies, we’ll have our pie fries usual. We’ll have big cookies, and we’ll have scones as well, too,” said Craig Cebulla.
They own Hatched Bakery in Brookfield. They don’t have a retail store because they designed their business with farmers’ markets and festivals in mind.
“Last year, with everything up in the air, I didn’t know what was going to happen,” Cebulla said.
But, this year, with Brookfield’s Farmers' Market starting off the season, the Cebullas are prepared to be busy all summer.
“We are committed to three farmers' markets for the season,” Cebulla said. "We’ll be at the Brookfield Farmers' Market on Saturday mornings, the ’tosa farmers' market as well on Saturday mornings, and sundays we’ll be out at Shorewood as well, too.”
They’re not the only ones who will be selling products Saturday.
Bobbi Harvey, the Brookfield Farmers’ Market manager said she had about 40 vendors booked for Saturday’s kickoff.
“Our maple syrup person comes all the way from Wausau, we have hydroponic tomatoes from that area as well, and they depend on their repeat customers for their livelihood, many of them,” Harvey noted.
With more people getting vaccinated and becoming more comfortable with going out, the Cebulas are hopeful vendors and farmers are able to sell everything they package up and bring to the market.
“I really hope this year those farmers are going home empty,” Cebula said.
The Brookfield Farmers' Market is open from 7:30 a.m. until noon and will run every Saturday from May 1 until October 30.
