RAYMOND, Wis. — Wayne’s Daughters Farm and Greenhouses is a local, nine-generation farm located in the Village of Raymond in Racine County.
It sits on land that was part of the Loppnow family before Wisconsin was even a state. The farm started selling livestock in 1838 and then switched to growing vegetables before planting flowers.
”My neighbor asked me to grow some plants, so I did and that is how it all started,” said Wayne Loppnow, a 7th generation farmer.
“Before we knew it, the livestock were packed up and out of there, we had about 10 greenhouses, and we went from being ‘Loppnow Farms’ to ‘Wayne’s Daughters Greenhouses,” said Sandra Loppnow, who used to be a city girl and a cosmetologist.
“I always used to say if you can't eat it don't grow it," Wayne Loppnow said. "Now it’s like if we don’t plant it we won’t have food on the table."
Wayne’s Daughters Farm and Greenhouses now have almost 50 greenhouses in two different locations. Now, the Loppnow’s four daughters work at the greenhouses and hope to carry on the family tradition.
Everything you’ll find in their greenhouses is grown locally. People from across Wisconsin and Illinois make the trip every year to Wayne’s Daughters.
“I just want to make everyone feels like family, like they are at home when they are here,” said Jennifer Loppnow-Becker.
Their opening day is Wednesday. They are known for the flowers, family atmosphere, ginormous baskets, and low prices.
