VERONA, Wis. — One Verona mom and homemaker purchased a one-of-a-kind Christmas ornament pattern, and now her holiday crochet hobby is going viral.
“Gosh if people only knew the work that goes into these,” Haute & Hookd Owner Kelsey Dolezel said as she added the final 13th spike protein to another COVID-19-inspired creation.
"One was this needle slipping and going under my nail," she said about the cruel little gray balls she covers in pointy red ends and adorns with yellow 2020 masks.
She said she does it to commemorate the tough year for hundreds of hospital staff employees world-wide.
"It makes my heart happy to know that I can bring a smile on the faces of lots of healthcare workers that are just all day every day doing the best that they can to kind of power through the year," Dolezel said about why she works 12-14 hour days on the COVID ornaments.
Her kids, nine-year-old Drake and six-year-old Teagan support their mom's viral sales, but both admit they were a little confused at first when they saw the strange little balls.
"I had no idea she was gonna make one of those," Drake said as he looked over his mom's handy-work.
"They make me laugh," Teagan said.
"I thought it would be kind of clever, I decided to get these little biohazard bags, I thought it would be kind of funny," Dolezel said about her special extra comedic touch. "It's a safe way to get it," she added.
Due to the demand, Dolezel said she can't even put a single COVID ornament under her own tree.
"I'm telling people right now beginning of February," she said about new orders still coming for the $30 creations.
