ASHWAUBENON Wis.— It’s been a long campaign— for candidates and voters.
With the end just days away, there’s a mix of confidence, excitement and anxiety among a crowd supporting President Donald Trump.
“I think we’re going to turn this one,” said Kimberly Saputo of Williams Bay. “It’s going to stay red. He made it red last time and I think it’s going to stay red. I think he might even take Minnesota and Pennsylvania.”She was one of more than 1,000 people who turned out at Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport to see and hear Trump in the closing days of the 2020 election.
“Hello Wisconsin, we’re back and we’re gonna win,” he told the crowd after stepping on the stage. “We’re gonna win this state. We win this state, you know what? It’s over.”
Wisconsin has seen a nearly-non-stop string of campaign stops this week from the Trump and Biden campaigns. Both presidential candidates were in the state Friday in a late bid to shore up support.
Trump talked about his major campaign platforms, from backing law enforcement, vaccines for COVID-19 to energy policy.
“I will deliver jobs, jobs, jobs and the greatest economy in the history of this county,” he said. “That’s going to be next year. You’ll see it.”
Friday was the sixth time Mark Heinonen has seen the president. The Houghton, Mich., resident said he plans to cast his vote Tuesday — ending his own campaign of sorts.
“I’m anxious. I’m anxious. I think it’s going to go good, I think he’s going to win,” he said. “But I’m definitely ready for it to be over.”
