MOSINEE, Wis.— Aaron Dupont has already voted.

But he was among the 150-or-so people listening to Vice President Mike Pence talks about policy at Central Wisconsin Airport Wednesday afternoon.

“I want to see Vice President Pence, I want to hear the message and be able to relay that message to friends and family,” The Wausau-area resident said. “And say ‘Hey, I’ve been to one of the rallies.’ I’m excited.”

Both the Trump and Biden campaigns are banking on that excitement to get people to the polls Tuesday.

“Remember, friends, don’t let friends vote alone. Bring a neighbor, bring a co-worker and vote to elect President Donald Trump,” Pence told the crowd in a nearly hour-long address.

His trip was the second by the Trump/Pence ticket to Wisconsin in as many days. And there are more coming in the final days of the campaign.

Both President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden have stops planned in the Badger State Friday.

With a pair of 70-somethings seeking the top office, the vice presidential race has taken on elevated stature in this election.

Trump supporter John Derkez of Pittsville sees the importance of that position.

“He needs to be on the same page as the president,” he said. “If anything … would happen to President Trump, he’d be your guy.”

And that guy hopes people like Dupont and Derkez help get voters out.

“I want you to go tell somebody every day between now and when the polls close, tell them why you came out here and sat in the cold, seriously,” Pence said before departing for another campaign stop in Michigan.
