MILWAUKEE, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS) — The Milwaukee VA has opened back up their farmers market for the season.

Summer is a wonderful time to head to farmers markets across the state. It’s a great chance for locally owned businesses to get their product in front of new faces.

Every other Friday, right outside the Milwaukee VA, you’ll find a funfilled farmers market.

Booths overflow with flowers, veggies, buttery popcorn and much more.

Keep walking throughout the lot and you will stumble upon something spicy.

“The jet blast is the hottest I have, with the ghost pepper as the most-mild pepper in it,” Doorstep Peppers owner, Dennis Pruszka says.

Pruszka is an Army National Guard and Air Force veteran. His business began by growing peppers right outside his doorstep. He says once he had so many that he didn’t know what to do with them all, he began drying them out and turning them into rubs and spices.

Now, he is selling his products in farmers markets across the Milwaukee area, so it’s safe to say many have tasted his spicy creations.

However, because of coronavirus, farmers markets were closed for a lengthy part of the summer this year.

“The farmers markets business is really kind of slow this year. It started off real slow with a lot of businesses not sure if they were going to be open for business,” Pruszka says.

This is why he was thrilled when he heard the Milwaukee VA was opening their market back up for the season.

“I just like to add tons of seasoning to my food and I cook a lot so I am a big foodie. I would highly recommend all of these things they are fabulous,” Milwaukee VA nurse, Sarah Ibis says.

Pruszka's other customers love his stuff too. He says it's nice to get out and see new faces and have customers come back who are excited about his pepper filled products.

The VA farmers market is open every other Friday starting at 10 am.
