MADISON, Wisc., (SPECTRUM NEWS) -- If you're casting your vote remotely, you may want to drop your absentee ballot in the mail sooner than you were planning to. 

As of Monday morning, municipal clerks have sent out 821,378 absentee ballots for the partisan primary. They've received requests for 836,469 and have already gotten 331,097 back. 

While partisan primary turnout is typically said to be low in numbers, this year is already looking a little different. In the 2016 partisan primary, 101,803 absentee ballots were issued in the state. Just 76,529 were returned. 2018's partisan primary tallied 108,162 returned absentee ballots out of the 128,286 that Wisconsin issued. 

The partisan primary is still slated for August 11. However, Meagan Wolfe, Wisconsin's chief elections official, says the Wisconsinites who have already cast their votes are on the right track. She's urging other voters to send their absentee ballots as soon as possible, too. 

“We want everyone’s vote to count, so complete and mail your absentee ballot as soon as possible,” Wolfe says. “The post office advises it may take a week for mail to get from you to your clerk’s office, so don’t wait.”

Getting your vote in early ensures that it meets the August 11 deadline at 8 p.m. 

If you are concerned about the deadline, you are able to drop off your ballot at the clerk's office or a polling place on August 11.
