GREEN BAY, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS) — Meat processing giant JBS USA is donating $1 million to Green Bay to help with COVID-19 relief efforts.

The company said the investment is focused on short and longer-term COVID-19 relief efforts including, food insecurity issues, and wellbeing and community infrastructure.

JBS said it will work with city leaders and the community to determine how the money will be used. It is seeking input from community members for potential projects.

“Our focus during the past few months has been on keeping our team members safe and healthy, and we remain committed to keeping COVID-19 out of our facility,” Hicham Timejardine, the Green Bay plant manager, said in a press release. “I am humbled to now have the opportunity to partner with community leaders to determine how best to invest this money.”

Hundreds of employees at JBS tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this year as the illness affected employees at a trio of meat processing facilities in, and around, Green Bay.

"We’re excited to work in collaboration with JBS on this significant investment, which has the potential to catalyze a dramatic improvement and transformation within Green Bay,” Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich said in the release.

The company expects to determine which projects will be funded by the end of the year.
