APPLETON, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS) -- As school districts across Wisconsin continue to modify and develop their back to school plans to start the new school year in the midst of the ongoing pandemic, the Appleton Area School District this week produced its plan which gives families several options.

"What we're going to be doing is to offer a totally virtual option for families, early childhood through Grade 12," Dr. Judy Baseman, the Appleton Area School District Superintendent told Spectrum News 1 Wednesday night. "We're also going to be offering our hybrid model, which is for Grades 5 through 12, which would be 2 days in person and 3 days virtual, and then for our kindergarten through 4th grade, we would offer a fully 5 day in-person option."

Appleton's plan is still contingent on public health, and Dr. Baseman says the district will still make a final decision on whether or not in-person classes will still be possible in the next few weeks, and if there were a positive test after the school year began?

"We would follow the protocol with our city health officer," Dr. Baseman said. "There's contact tracing, there's isolation for a certain period of time, [and] making sure students that were in that [classroom] were isolating themselves as well."
