MENASHA, Wisc., (SPECTRUM NEWS 1) -- To help contain the spread of COVID-19, temperature checks at places of work are becoming more common. Faith Technologies of Menasha has developed a screening process which they believe is quicker and safer for workers.

It uses thermal cameras and is also non-contact and socially distant. They recently showed off some of their designs at Excellerate Manufacturing in Neenah.

“One’s a tablet solution. One’s an overhead permanent mounted solution. Depending on how many people you want to get through a particular area at one time may dictate the solution to go with,” says Faith Technologies' VP of solutions, Wade Leipold.

The thermal cameras read body temperatures as employees arrive to work. Some models can scan up to sixteen people at once.

“Those that would have a high temperature, that photo is captured and an email can be sent off with the temperature and a photo so that we can have further follow up with those individuals,” saysLeipold.

Faith has received 25 orders so far. Businesses including hospitals, food distributors, and casinos have shown interest. For Excellerate employees, the screening has become part of their routine.

“It was just a great fit for us to understand it, use it, learn about it, and use it to our benefit,” says Excellerate Manufacturing's president, John Gunderson.

There’s no touching of a thermometer to a forehead. Faith claims accuracy to one-half degree. Also, if a business enforces mask wearing, employees will get a little robotic reminder while their temperature is being checked saying, “Please put on a mask."

Temperature checks are just one of many precautions businesses are taking as more people head back to work.

“Once you’re in the building, you do have that piece of mind that everybody that came into this facility went through the same screening process. We’re following the same CDC guidelines. There’s a level of comfort associated with that,” says Gunderson.
