WAUWATOSA, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS)— Hundreds joined the families of Alvin Cole, Jay Anderson, and Antonio Gonzales at the Wauwatosa Police department on Thursday to show their support.
“Imagine if that was your son, that was her son, that was her brother, imagine if that was your son,” shouts Kathleen Turner. It’’s hard to imagine the pain the families of Cole, Anderson, and Gonzalez are living. If f you didn’t know better, you might think Turner was one of those family members. “I don’t know the family; however I am a biracial woman so I am considered a black woman and I have seen one too many black people get killed and it’s time to awaken people,” says Turner.
It’s why on Thursday, the attorney for both the Anderson and Cole family filed a civil complaint against officer Joseph Mensah, the Wauwatosa police officer they say is responsible for the deaths of their family members.“We also put in an open records request and the open records request is really important and all these documents we are making available to the public. We are asking for officer Mensah’s personal files and for the policies and procedures of the Wauwatosa Police department,” says Kimberly Motley, the attorney for the Anderson and Cole family.
The February 2, 2020 shooting of 17-year-old Alvin Cole is currently under investigation. The deaths of jay Anderson and Antonio Gonzalez were deemed justified in self-defense.
“When this all started talking place was like I am going to do my part, I am going to show up because black lives do matter and it’s not that we are saying all lives don’t matter. We are saying black lives matter and until black lives matter all lives can’t matter because black is not in the equation," says Turner.
So while it's painful to imagine the pain the families are going through, Kathleen Turner’s ability to empathize with the families is what the movement is all about.
