OSHKOSH, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS) — The spring of cancellations is quickly turning into the summer of “we’ll back next year.”

Oshkosh has seen its share of cancellations with Lifest — a Christian music festival — the latest to put the brakes on the 2020 edition. It joins other high profile events like Experimental Aircraft Association AirVenture, Country USA and Rock USA in cancelling.

“Those events pack a lot of  economic punch,” said Amy Albright, executive director of Oshkosh Convention and Visitors Bureau. “It’s been a tough year for hospitality in general, but in Oshkosh we’re certainly feeling it.”

The economic impact of those events reach into the hundreds of millions of dollars in not just in Oshkosh — but surrounding counties, too.

Country and Rock USA organizers say they are working to fulfill financial obligations to acts, lessors, suppliers and others. They’re also working to keep the festivals going for 2021.

EAA has announced its dates for 2021 and Albright said she’s hopefully the other festivals will be back next year.

“All of these organizations would much rather be having an event and not be in this position,” she said. “They all want to be back next year. I think they’re all going to try to do their best to try to make right on everything they need to.”
