MADISON, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS)-- The woman behind a Madison-based coding company focused on helping minorities — received a high honor from 'Forbes.' The top-rated business magazine named her one of their '30 under 30' to watch for in 2020.

Winnie Karanja’s goal is to inspire underrepresented groups like women and people of color to succeed in technology-related fields. For five years now, her company Maydm has trained more than one thousand students through special workshops and summer programs in Madison and Milwaukee.

She credits her Kenyan family for supporting her ambitious dreams of doing what's best for the people in her community.

‘I can do these great things because my parents and the people around me always saw the greatness and it is something I look to embed in Maydm, into the way we interact with volunteers and students and everything that we do," Karanja said.
