(SPECTRUM NEWS) - The 2019 Gun Deer season is off to a slow start, but the harvest isn’t what it’s all about.

Great memories with friends and family, that is the most important to some hunters.

“It’s not about how many deer we get or who gets the biggest deer --it's just about the camaraderie, friendship, and family,” says Jeff Trudell of Germantown.

For the past 20 years in Sullivan, Wisconsin every gun deer season Dan Infalt leads his buddies on drives that he says are unlike others around.

“We jump into the water. We found the bucks lay in the dry patches so we actually push the water and cattails up onto where the hunters wait,” says Infalt.

It’s the annual tradition every hunter lives for and in this group they prefer drives over sitting in a deer stand.

“It's an active way to hunt instead of going and sitting in the stand we get together with a group of guys and its a lot of work. The last 2 days I logged almost 16 miles of walking if my stepper is correct,” says Mario Trafficante of Sussex.

Often times the younger guys drive while of the older ones hang back, something Dave Dockstader of Oconomowoc has been forced to get used to. For the past 3 years, he has been battling blood cancer.

“I shot a lot of deer all my life. It's fun watching these younger guys trying to get deer and stuff I'm not going to say if a big buck comes out that's a different story."

And year after year, some news faces, along with the old meet at Dan’s for some driving.

"We may not see each other in a year and we get back together and it's like we have never missed each other,” says Trudell.
