The Milwaukee Police Department released the mugshot of Jordan Fricke, the suspect in the fatal shooting of Officer Matthew Rittner, on Thursday, Feb. 7.

Fricke, age 26 of Milwaukee, has not officially been charged in connection with the shooting, but police identified him as the suspect after the incident. He was arrested on scene by the Tactical Enforcement Unit without incident.

Officer Rittner was shot near 12th and Manitoba on the city’s south side Wednesday, Feb. 6. The fallen officer left behind a wife and young son. He was 35 years old, and a 17-year member of the department.

Rittner, a 17-year police veteran, was shot when members of Milwaukee’s Tactical Enforcement Unit served a search warrant on someone suspected of illegally selling firearms and drugs.

Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales says investigators hope to wrap up their work at the scene on Thursday. Rittner’s autopsy was also expected to be completed Thursday.
