MILWAUKEE — Looking to enact change in the way police departments around Wisconsin interact with their communities, the Speaker’s Task Force on Racial Disparities recently handed down their recommendations for changes in the way those departments do their jobs.
“We had a moment in time where we could be impactful and put real reforms on our books in the state of Wisconsin” said co-chair of the task force, State Rep. Shelia Stubbs.
Among the recommendations, protection for ‘whistleblowers’ among police officers, increased use of body cameras and creating a statewide prohibition against the use of choke holds.
The challenge for the committee now is getting those recommendations passed into laws.
