MADISON, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS) -- In trying times, many people are using the opportunity to take stock of their lives. That's exactly what one West Allis couple did by choosing to get married now, instead of waiting for a big wedding.
“We gather here today, at an appropriate social distance, to celebrate the wedding of Megan and H.”
H and Megan Due got engaged in February 2019. Shortly after, the couple discussed wedding plans.
“H’s mom was really all about a wedding," Megan Due said. "My brother really wanted a big wedding. So we were making plans, we were putting money away, I had gotten a second job to squirrel some money away for a wedding.”
When the coronavirus hit, the reality of the situation sunk in, both financially and emotionally.
“You just never know what’s going to happen," H Due said. "You just have no idea, and it was kind of like that, like what if one of us does get sick? And obviously, with coronavirus you can’t visit in the hospitals anyway but what if, you know, I got sick and Megan had no power?”
So instead of waiting out the pandemic, the two decided to make the most of the situation.
"We just stood outside of Monty's," H Due said. "It is our favorite restaurant."
With their $20 rings from Amazon, to their nuptial attire of jeans and cargo shorts, Megan and H chose to appreciate the little things in life and exchanged their vows.
“I promise to always get you the plants that make you smile, even though we’re running out of window space," Megan Due said.
“I will continue to do anything and everything I can to make you happy,” H Due said.
Because at the end of the day, a wedding isn't about the dress, or tux, or venue—it's about celebrating love.
“I know this is cliche, but it was the best day of my life so far," Megan Due said. “Because I got to marry my best friend.”
