BROOKFIELD, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS) -- Governor Tony Evers' decision to extend Wisconsin’s "Safer at Home" order was met with a sea of opposition in Brookfield on Saturday.
The peaceful demonstration which drew hundreds to the sidewalk in front of Brookfield Square comes on the heels of Thursday’s decision by Governor Tony Evers extending his stay-at-home order until May 26, closing schools for the rest of the academic year while also relaxing some provisions from the previous order.
People held American and Gadsden flags along with homemade signs. Many cars that drove by honked in support.
Some in the crowd wore masks while many went without and ignored social distancing guidelines.”It’s not as dangerous as people say. There have only been 20-thousand deaths and that’s after they inflated the numbers calling some of the cases corona deaths,” says Paul Anderson.
Rose Neitzel, 83, was also on her feet for hours-hoping to get her voice heard. “I want our freedom to be back and the whole state to get back to work. The virus is not that difficult, I mean most people haven’t died and I want God to bless America,” says Neitzel.
Another stay-at-home protest called the "Freedom Rally," is scheduled at the Capitol building in Madison on Friday, April 24, the day the 'Safer At Home' order was set to expire if not extended.
