GLENDALE, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS) -- The pandemic has canceled events worldwide, but a Wisconsin police department is making sure the most important yearly celebrations for families are not called-off.

Emmett Zuithoff's birthday celebration was in jeopardy for the third year in a row.

“Two years in a row I haven’t been able to have like a good birthday of stuff happening," said Zuithoff.

Until his mom and a squad of heroes came to the rescue.

“I saw it on next door someone had posted, so I went in and thought oh my gosh that’s brilliant and they made it so easy.

They really exceeded my expectations. They had the banner and multiple police cars. They really made it just personal to Emmett," said Carrie Zuithoff.

The Glendale police department quickly responded to the birthday request. A curbside birthday celebration complete with a surprise gift put together by Glendale's Officer Kelly Dejonge.

“Since they’re not able to have a birthday party or have their friends over because of the safe at home orders,

It's just a way to brighten up their day and spend some birthday celebrations with them," added Officer Dejonge.

This is an effort to make sure Glendale boys and girls have a special birthday to remember despite changes in plans and the circumstances we face due to the pandemic.

“It was fun and exciting, I was like surprised because I didn’t know that was happening until my parents told me so I was happy about that", shared Zuithoff about his birthday celebration courtesy of Glendale Police Department on Thursday.

Making birthday number nine a real success for the young sports fan.

The Glendale police department launched this program on April 13th and will continue until the pandemic ends as long as their resources allow it.

Responses to the program from the community have been very positive with over 40 curbside birthday celebration requests to date.
