MILWAUKEE (SPECTRUM NEWS) - Stay-at-home orders have major financial consequences for the restaurant indury. As one Milwaukee staple struggles to stay open, customers are showing support in massive numbers for Friday fish fries.
At The Packing House across from Mitchell Airport, drive-thru lines have been more than a half mile long the past two Fridays.
General Manager Chris Wiken has had to lay off most of his staff, but he says this support gives him hope things will return to normal once pandemic restrictions are lifted.
“I can’t thank them enough,” Wiken said. “This is what it’s going to take to keep us going and to be open on the other side of this. It’s just so heartwarming. It’s actually really emotional. It’s just great.”
Six nights a week, this longtime favorite is hurting from pandemic-related restrictions. The fish fry is keeping The Packing House, this show of support means almost as much as the money.
