KENOSHA, Wis (SPECTRUM NEWS) - As college tuition across the nation continually increases, a Wisconsin college, Carthage College, lowers its tuition in order to become a more inclusive institution.

According to Wisconsin Public Radio, Carthage College is the first private institution in the state to significantly lower its tuition.

Beginning next fall, Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin will decline tuition by 30% per academic year. The decrease will allow more families to consider enrollment and impact returning students as well.

Students across the country know that the cost of college is one of the leading factors when choosing which institution to attend.

“When students apply for Carthage one of the first things they look at is tuition and when they see that amount that used to be the tuition, they kinda go apply to other schools that are more affordable for them,” said international student at Carthage College, Wesam Al-Sarori.

President of Carthage College, John Swallow, acknowledged that price influences student and their families.

“We know that many families rule out colleges based on their sticker price, and we’re moving our sticker price 30 percent down so that more families will know that they can afford to come to Carthage,” said Swallow.

The new reduction will help current student save about $14,000 of their current tuition, and about $45,000 per academic school year.

Carthage leaders say they are proud to be paving the way. The lower tuition initiative will hopefully open the door to a more inclusive and diverse campus.
