SANTA ANA (CNS) — The number of coronavirus patients in Orange County hospitals increased by six people to 195, with 25 of those patients in intensive care, down one from the previous day's total, according to the latest state data released Saturday.

Those numbers come one day after the county announced that its test positivity rates continued to decline this week — dropping from 9.8% as of Monday to 9.1% as of Thursday, and dropping from 11.6% to 10.1% in the health equity quartile, which measures the communities hardest hit by the pandemic.

The county's daily case rate per 100,000 people — with a seven-day average and seven-day lag — decreased from 13.7 as of Monday to 11.9 as of Friday, while the adjusted rate dropped from 14.1 to 12.3, the Orange County Health Care Agency announced.

The OCHCA logged 1,422 new infections Tuesday through Thursday, and 24 additional deaths linked to the virus, although many of the deaths occurred prior to this week.

Orange County has now seen 662,438 cases of COVID-19 and 7,389 deaths since the pandemic began.

The OCHCA provides regular COVID updates on Tuesdays and Fridays.
