OZAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS) - Some areas of Wisconsin experience near non-stop rainfall from Saturday night into Monday afternoon.

The village of Belgium saw seven inches of rainfall as of Monday.

Belgium Department of Public Works superintendent Danny Birenbaum said some of that water made it into residents’ basements, but for the most part, the village avoided significant damage.

In southern Ozaukee County, the Milwaukee River roared past Thiensville Dam, spilling more than 50 yards into Village Park. Neighbors said they are used to seeing the river overflow into the park. However, Chris Cunningham, who has lived near the park for five years, said he had never seen water rushing over the dam like it was Monday.

“There’s like no waterfall anymore,” Cunningham said. “Usually, that’s at least a 6-8 foot drop. This is probably the worst I’ve seen in the few years I’ve lived here.”
