MILWAUKEE (SPECTRUM NEWS) - The Brewers will sport a new but familiar look for the 2020 season as the organization celebrates its 50th anniversary. The team showcased its rebranding by unveiling four new uniforms Monday night at Miller Park.

The most recognizable change will be on the Brewer ball caps. The “M” logo will be retired in favor of the beloved ball-in-glove the team debuted in 1978 and has continued to wear in throwback combinations. The 2020 Milwaukee caps will be navy, rather than the royal blue color schemes of the past.

“We wanted to modernize the logo, but we didn’t want it to look so modern that in five years, it’d look like it was locked in the year 2020 and we’d wand to change it back,” owner Mark Attanasio said.

Next season the Brewers will wear a cream-colored jersey for most home games, with a navy pinstriped home alternate. On the road, they will debut a new gray uniform and a navy alternate with “Milwaukee” in script across the chest.

“The ball and glove logo goes back to something our fans created, so there’s something about that that’s so special,” veteran outfielder Ryan Braun said. "At the same time, I think the new jersey, the new logo, is something that takes a modern twist on the history and tradition of something that has become an iconic logo.”

The club’s latest rebranding was several years in the making. Counsell met in 2016 with designer Rodney Richardson, founder of RARE Design in Hattiesburg, Miss., to discuss the team’s history and identity.

Also Monday the organization announced the “First 50” program, recognizing people and institutions playing key roles in the first half century of Brewers baseball. Former owner Bud Selig received the first honor for his role in bringing professional baseball back to Milwaukee. Longtime broadcaster Bob Uecker received the 50th spot on the list, honoring his upcoming 50th season as the voice of Milwaukee baseball.
