MADISON, Wis. — The Overture Center for the Arts announced its 2023-24 theater season, which kicks off with a Disney classic.
“Aladdin” runs at Overture from Oct. 10-15, 2023, followed by “My Fair Lady” from Nov. 21-26.
The venue will ring in 2024 with “Beetlejuice,” running from Jan. 9-14. Fans can catch a performance of “Les Miserables” from Feb. 14-18, 2024. “Mamma Mia!” will play in Madison from March 19-24, followed by “TINA — The Tina Turner Musical” from June 11-16, 2024. “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” rounds out the season at Overture from July 9-21, 2024.
“I think it’s a terrific Broadway season. There’s something in there for everyone,” Chief Artistic Experiences Officer Tim Sauers said. “It’s a good, diverse lineup of kinds of musicals, from classic to contemporary.
Sauers said he knows Madison audiences specifically have said they’ve been wanting to see “Les Miserables” and “Moulin Rouge! The Musical.” His personal favorite of the lineup is a newer piece, and a Madison premiere.
“Of all of the Broadway shows — I’ve seen them all — I can’t wait to see ‘Beetlejuice’ again. I saw it pre-COVID, and it was a big surprise to me. It was so much fun,” he added.
Subscription packages are available now. Individual show tickets will be made available to the public at a later date. “The Lion King,” “Tootsie” and “SIX” round out the current theater season.
Overture also released three other series lineups, including Cabaret, Up Close and Changemakers. The Cabaret series includes performances from “Sex and the City 2’s” Nicholas Rodriguez, Broadway’s Nathaniel Stampley and a Barbra Streisand show from Jenna Pastuszek. The Up Close series is meant to exude cocktail lounge vibes, “featuring some of the coolest, up-and-coming artists from around the world” including Gabriel Royal, Maeve Gilchrist and Magos Herrera.
The Changemakers series will feature three speakers including Kobie Boykins, a NASA engineer, Deanna Fitzmaurice, a photojournalist and Brian Skerry, an underwater photographer.
Overture will also host a range of shows through Overture Presents, including drag shows, dance shows, film screenings with accompanying musical concerts, comedians, concerts, plays and more.
Overture has dubbed the 2023-24 season as “spectacular,” which borrows from “Moulin Roouge’s” themes.
“Coming to a show at Overture Center is spectacular,” Sauers said. “It’s very vibrant and alive and I think our season really reflects that.”
