WISCONSIN — Voters across Wisconsin will be asked to weigh in on various referendums on the April 6 general election ballots.

School districts

Multiple school districts are asking Wisconsinites to consider school referendums that would increase tax levies to maintain or improve school operations, from new buildings to new programs. Some of these districts include:

  • Barron Area School District - $24.5 million

  • Cumberland School District - $32.5 million

  • Howard Suamico School District - $98 million

  • New Glarus School District - $28.9 million

  • Central High School District of Westosha - $39.6 million

  • Black Hawk School District - $14.2 million

  • Reedsville SD - $11.5 million

  • Wausau School District - $148 million

  • Peshtigo School District - $33.2 million

  • St. Francis School District - $30.6 million

  • Hortonville School District - $41.8 million question 1/$12.2 million question 2

  • School district of Bonduel - $12.5 million

  • School district of Howards Gove - $35 million

  • School district of Kohler - $17.5 million question 1/$2.5 million question 2

  • St. Croix Central School District - $22.5 million

  • Medford School District - $39.9 million

Madison Common Council

Madison voters will be asked four advisory referendum questions about the size of the Madison Common Council, the amount of alderperson pay, the length of alderperson terms, and whether alderpersons should be subject to term limits.

The four questions will appear as follows:

  1. Madison currently has a part‑time Common Council with members who are paid approximately thirteen‑thousand seven hundred dollars ($13,700) per year. Beginning with the 2023 Spring Election, SHOULD the City of Madison transition to a full‑time Common Council with each Common Council member earning between fifty percent (50%) to eighty percent (80%) of the Adjusted Median Income for Dane County for a single parent with two children (approximately $45,000 to $71,000 per year)?

  2. Madison currently has a part-time Common Council comprised of twenty (20) alderpersons, one from each alderperson district. Beginning with the 2023 Spring Election, SHOULD the size of the City of Madison Common Council:

  3. Madison alderpersons are currently elected to two (2) year terms. The Madison Mayor is currently elected to four (4) year terms. Beginning with the 2023 Spring Election, SHOULD City of Madison alderpersons be elected to four (4) year terms?

  4. Madison alderpersons are currently not subject to term limits. Beginning with the 2023 Spring Election, if the City transitions to a full‑time Common Council SHOULD the City of Madison alderpersons be subject to term limits of twelve (12) consecutive years?

Rock County ATVs/UTVs on roads

Some Rock County towns and a village are asking residents to consider letting ATVs share the roads with other vehicles.

The referendums will be on the ballot in Orfordville and the towns of Avon, Center, Plymouth, and Union to increase outdoor recreation and tourism not just in the area, but across the state.

Road and bridge construction

Oneida County is asking residents to consider a tax increase that would result in a levy of $14,804,803 for “necessary road and bridge construction” over the next several years, through 2031.
