MILWAUKEE — Wisconsin truckers traveling across the country as essential employees to keep American supply chains running.

The coronavirus pandemic has changed many things for drivers, but it has also kept them busy.

“The chicken never stops, we travel all over the country. I mainly go from California back to Wisconsin,” said Jason Johnson, a truck driver with Brakebush Brothers based out of Westfield.

Johnson has been driving for decades.

“I love what I do,” explained Johnson.

As truckers continue to work during the pandemic, Johnson hopes some of the older drivers can get moved up on the priority list for the COVID vaccine.

“There are drivers that are out there in their 60’s and I believe they should be the first ones to get the shot, if they want it,” said Johnson. “We drive everywhere and go into some of the worst hit areas.”

Right now the head of the American Truckers Association has requested the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention place drivers higher on the list for the vaccine. Those with the Wisconsin Motor Carriers Association are also requesting that drivers move up on the COVID-19 vaccination list as well. Right now, the CDC recommends truck drivers be included in phase 1C.
