FOND DU LAC COUNTY, Wisc., (SPECTRUM NEWS)- With the percentage of positive COVID-19 cases on the rise in Fond du Lac County, health officials are reminding residents to avoid large social gatherings.

The county health department held a Facebook Live event Wednesday to address case numbers in the county. Fond du Lac County Health Officer Kim Mueller says that contact tracing has shown that many people aren’t following recommendations to avoid large group events.

“We continue to see people gathering socially such as at several golf outings, weddings, bridal showers, one gathering was a wedding over 300 people attended. People are attending these gatherings and not wearing masks and even attending these gatherings while they are experiencing symptoms,” Mueller said during Wednesday’s briefing.

As of Wednesday morning, Fond du Lac County has recorded 676 positive COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic. Hospitalizations are also rising in the county. A representative with St. Agnes Hospital said during Wednesday’s briefing that COVID-19 hospitalizations are the highest the hospital has seen since the pandemic began in March.
