MILWAUKEE, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS) -- The pandemic has limited the way people stay active, and to help wisconsinites, Fred Astaire Dance Studios is giving families a safe way to stay active from the comfort of their homes.

“It’s been a good mental and physical exercise," said Fred Astaire dance student, Lacey Sadoff, who joined the online classes when the studios closed due to the pandemic.

New and seasoned Wisconsin dancers are learning new moves from instructors all over the country, including a very famous one.

“The students from Wisconsin are some of the best in the country…they are so thankful and they are so prepared they show up to the class fully dressed and ready to dance," said Tony Dovolani, celebrity ballroom dancer and professional instructor.

Making it a little less daunting and more exciting for families and people of all ages.

“I think probably more people are realizing ballroom dancing isn’t as intimidating as it may seem, there’s really something for everyone and we all started as beginners so it’s fun," added Sadoff.

Local instructors have been able to connect with students of all abilities through this art virtually.

“We actually have quite a few students that are wheel chair bound who started taking ballroom dancing and just last week we started our very first dance mobility virtual class…and it was so moving because we had people of all ages, we had a little girl," said Albina Habrle an instructor at Fred Astaire Studios of Milwaukee.

Spreading the joy of dancing with more people during a time when it's more necessary than ever.

“It just wants to give you joy, so the sooner you start the sooner you’ll have a smile on your face,” added Dovolani.
