MILWAUKEE (SPECTRUM NEWS) -- During this time of social distancing and increased emphasis on restricting large groups, many workout facilities are being forced to close.  Many of them are also locally owned.

"We're down with the counts for classes and private lessons so, it's  big deal," says Jesse Masche, Owner of East Side Pilates.  "There are places that say they have insurance they can apply for through the state, but I haven't quite looked into what we'll be able to do yet."

Masche says her Pilates studio will remain open for as long as possible, and for as long as it's safe to do so.  She says she's doubled down on cleaning efforts.

"Extra cleaning between clients, and at the beginning of the day and at the end of the day," Masche says.  "Wherever we can sneak in some extra cleaning and we’re doing all the floors, the door handles, the bathroom."

Masche's classes have no more than five people, which is well below the suggested 10-person limit.  Social distancing is being suggested as well.  Her students say that supporting all local business owners during this difficult time is critical.

"They depend on people in the neighborhood to utilize their services and Jesse has quite a core of people who do utilize it and they shouldn’t be afraid of not coming because of the virus," says client Lisa Simmons  "It’s always very clean here, she has small groups, less than ten people, it's usually about four or five.”

Workout facilities across the state and the country are temporarily closing their doors and many are switching to online classes.  Check with your local gym, or studio to see when and how classes are still being offered.
