MADISON, Wis (SPECTRUM NEWS) - American Family Children’s Hospital doctors thankful for the generous donation of a new device they say will help them save the lives of the littlest cancer patients.

The MACC Fund, the Wisconsin Lions and the Lions Clubs International Foundation purchased a $200,000 flow cytometer for the pediatric oncology laboratories.  The machine can sort cancer cells to help researchers gain insight into the biology of the disease.

"All of the other cutting edge immunotherapy labs around the country. Have access to a machine like this and now we do too," Dr. Christian Capitini said.

"To have one of these for laboratories dedicated to childhood cancer, that’s something special and something to celebrate here in Wisconsin," he added.

The Wisconsin Lions says the effort to bring the American Family Children’s Hospital the flow cytometer was two years in the making.
