GENOA CITY, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS)— A Wisconsin safari is remaining afloat by finding a new way for guests to interact with its animals.

Just outside of Lake Geneva you can find a place where the wild things are. They are at Safari Lake Geneva. It’s been around since 2016 as a place for families to get up close and personal with wild animals.

“It really can be a hands free outing for the whole family from the safety of their own vehicle” Safari Lake Geneva Owner, Jungle Jay Christie said.

Normally to see animals at Safari Lake Geneva you would jump into a safari van with a bunch of other people. But now,  because of the coronavirus you get in your own car and these animals come right up to your own window.

You make a trip around the location and dozens of animals make their way up to your car awaiting a delicious snack. There are ostriches, zebras, camels and much more. It can even be used as an education tool for all those kids home schooling right now.

“We have an enormous number of students coming in with their parents. It is quite educational. Although we don’t have the luxury of an escorted guide, we have updated our website to indicate what animals to be on the lookout for,” Christie said.

Owner, Jungle Jay Christie says during the outbreak, they have seen their largest number of guests come through in one day to hang out and get up close and personal with these animals.

“I would say we have seen a tremendous spike in visitation. Our former record which was labor day last year was 260 guests in one day. This past Saturday we welcomed 501, so almost double our record over four years,” Christie said.

Of course being able to stay inside the comfort of your own car has its perks too. You can choose to roll your window up if you are scared, or you can even lean out a little further to get the perfect selfie.
