MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee is celebrating the Fourth of July with a bang: Fireworks and community celebrations are planned for the country’s 250th birthday.
This year’s Fourth of July theme is “Joining Hands in Unity.” Community celebrations will take place on Friday, July 4.
“Independence Day in Milwaukee is a great combination of celebration and tradition. Neighborhoods bring unique charm to their events while joining in the citywide patriotic themes,” Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson said. “Our festivities create goodwill and wonderful memories each Fourth of July.”
The tradition dates back to 1911, when the city first held community events for the holiday.
In addition to firework displays, the city will also host community activities such as games, parades, picnics, talent contests and more.
Celebrations will be held at the following county parks:
- Alcott Park
- Enderis Playfield
- Gordon Park
- Humboldt Park
- Jackson Park
- King Center
- Lake Park
- Lincoln Park
- Mitchell Park
- Washington Park
- Wilson Park
However, the city said fireworks will not be set off at Mitchell Park or Noyes Park this year, due to reforestation work by Milwaukee County Parks. The city has yet to announce if it will bring back lakefront fireworks in 2025.
“While Mitchell Park won’t host fireworks this year, I encourage residents to still gather with family and friends for daytime celebrations,” District 8 Alderwoman JoCasta Zamarripa said. “Independence Day is a cherished summer tradition and makes our community so special. Residents can still join together at Jackson Park for fireworks.”
“Milwaukee’s Independence Day celebrations are a special tradition that unites our city,” District 9 Alderwoman Larresa Taylor said. “Although I am disappointed Noyes Park won’t host festivities this year, we can continue to make this a memorable occasion for all by joining together at Washington Park for an amazing firework show.”
The city said it will release additional details at a later date. Get more information, here.
