GREEN BAY, Wis. — Sometimes called a guru, Dr. Robert Anderson’s skill and success with foot and ankle problems draws top professional athletes to Green Bay.

What You Need To Know

  • Dr. Robert Anderson grew up a Packers fan in Wauwatosa
  • He specializes in foot and ankle injuries
  • Anderson joined Bellin Health Titletown Sports Medicine & Orthopedics in 2017
  • Became the Packers' team physician

For years they came to his office in North Carolina but since 2017, the best of the best have made their way to Wisconsin, where he now practices across the street from Lambeau Field. The Bellin Health Titletown Sports Medicine & Orthopedics contains cutting edge diagnostic and rehabilitation equipment that helps Anderson make career impacting decisions for his patients.

"When you walk up the stairs and you go, wow. You have no idea that this is here," said Anderson. "It’s really unique. I don’t know of another facility like this in the state."

Anderson in some sense is always on call. When the biggest names in sports reach out to him, they do so to help make career impacting decisions regarding their injuries. The upstairs of the clinic contains the Sports Performance Center, complete with an indoor football field, basketball court, running track, cycling center, and more.

As Anderson says, ‘all the bells and whistles.’

"I send them upstairs. I can get them fully evaluated and find out what their strength characteristics are," said Anderson. "Are they running properly? How high can they jump? Then bring them back downstairs and go over that and then decide, is this something we can help surgically or not."

Anderson, a Wauwatosa native, spent 28 years in North Carolina where he built up his reputation as a preeminent foot and ankle expert. Long time friend and Green Bay Packers Head Medical Director Dr. Patrick McKenzie lured Anderson back to Wisconsin to join him at Bellin Health Titletown.

"When I came here for the grand opening, my wife looked at me and she said, 'Did you have any idea what this place was all about?'" said Anderson. "I said, 'No I didn’t.' We went upstairs we were just awed."

Bellin Health Titletown covers more than just foot problems. Knees, hips, shoulders, and more plus nutrition, regenerative measures, and sports psychology are a few of their other offerings. The practice focuses on elite athletes but that doesn't mean just professionals with million dollar contracts. Many local athletes have benefited from having the clinic right in their backyard as well.

"That could be your high school volleyball player trying to get a college scholarship which may make all the difference in the world," said Anderson. "Or maybe the college player who’s trying to make it to the next level of professional sports or the professional player who has a potentially career ending injury and yet we’re able to extend it ten years."

Anderson previously worked as a team physician for the Carolina Panthers for 18 years. When he came back home to Wisconsin, he also joined the Packers medical staff. He recalls going to games and dreaming about Lambeau Field as a kid and still gets a thrill from working there.

"There’s an aura to being in that facility in Lambeau Field," said Anderson. "You go through that tunnel after the players have already gone through. There’s still the lights and music and smoke. It’s fun."

On game days, he’s caring for Packers players but it’s not unusual for him to find former patients on the opposing sideline as well. Recently, just days after the Super Bowl, the NFL Network reported that Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was in town to see Dr. Anderson. Privacy restrictions won't allow Anderson or his staff to talk about specific players but getting to reconnect with former patients is definitely a highlight for Dr. Anderson.

"They’ll come over and say thank you," said Anderson. "It’s fun, just for ten seconds, just to ask them how they’re doing and they’ll say I’m doing great. You realize you made an impact in having them out there."
