WITTENBERG, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS) - Hunting deer in Wisconsin is a tradition that goes back three generations for the Konkol family.

Kevin Konkol grew up hunting with his father Bob Konkol; every gun deer season they would scout the land behind his grandmother's house in Shawano County. Bob passed away 10 years ago, but this year, Kevin has a new hunting partner, his 19-year-old son Carson.

“It’s a nice bonding time to do something that we like out in nature. We usually go bow hunting but we decided to take the guns out this season,” Kevin Konkol says.

That bonding time is something hunters across the state know well.

“My dad taught me everything since I was 12-years-old. He’s taught me a lot along the way. Mainly just keeping quiet and not make any noise and that will get you far in these woods,” Carson Konkol says.

The elder Konkol made the “The Denmark News” when he was 12-years-old for bagging his first buck, and now nearly 40 years and one day later, Kevin got to watch his son do the same. By the time Carson got situated in his tree, it took him roughly 15 minutes to land his first doe.

“I got to go out with my dad and harvest my first deer," says Carson Konkol.

No matter how many generation have passed, for the Konkols, some things really do run in the family.
