TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo Board of Education voted unanimously this week to temporarily close Edgewater Elementary and the Mayfair Early Childhood Center to repurpose the buildings.

In the resolution, it states the district has faced changes in state funding, which led the schools to do a reevaluation of its district facilities for financial stability.

The Mayfair Early Childhood Education and Edgewater Elementary School were identified for potential repurposing "to better align with district priorities, educational advancements and community needs."

For the students affected, the district said it intends to provide them with safe, reliable and efficient transportation to their reassigned schools. The board said students at Edgewater will attend Ottawa River Elementary School in the fall.

During the buildings' closures, the district will take time to evaluate the possible uses for the buildings, engage with community members and develop a plan.
