While the state grapples with homelessness, BBless2 Outreach Ministries is lending a helping hand.

The group helps people experiencing homelessness in Columbus a couple times a month. They give away hot meals and other essentials.

Their mission is especially personal to founder and CEO of BBless2 Doreatha Reid.

“I grew up in Chicago, and I had a pretty challenging life as well,” she said. “So, experiencing homelessness on a small degree, you know, when you don’t have, you kind of understand what people are going through, as they always say.”

Diane Avrams, for one, is always happy to see Reid.

“It’s very touching because, you know, she cares about everybody,” said Avrams.

But Reid wants to do more.

“My desire is to have a building that has a warming station, so they can have a hot meal,” she said. “They can sleep. We can be a resource center. That’s what I desire. But right at the moment, this is where we are at.”

But for now, she hopes her message gets through: “They are not forgotten. They’re not invisible, that BBless2 loves them and thinks about them all the time. You know, that’s what I want to say.”
