OHIO — Two Ohio universities canceled upcoming men's basketball games due to COVID-19 concerns.

The University of Dayton (UD) decided to cancel Tuesday's game after Alcorn State had a member test positive for COVID-19 during pre-competition testing at Kent State.

"We are working through our contingency plans and will share scheduling updates as they develop," the university wrote in a press release.

UD also had to cancel Tuesday's exhibition game against Cedarville University after a positive test was reported in Cedarville's personnel. The men's basketball team still plans to play against Southern Methodist at UD Arena on Dec. 5.

The news comes a few days after UD's women's basketball coach, Shauna Green, also contracted COVID-19. The women's team will play against Morehead State Wednesday for its season opener.

Kent State announced it had to cancel Saturday's game — also the season opener — as they were scheduled to play against Alcorn State. Monday is the new season opener for the Flashes. They will host Purdue Fort Wayne at 5 p.m.

"The health and safety of our student-athletes and staff is our highest priority," the Kent State men's basketball team wrote in an Instagram post.
