CEDARVILLE, Ohio– Getting amped up for a workout or athletic activity typically means taking a pre-workout drink, which is usually loaded with either caffeine and sugar.

A West Chester Company, CAHV Holdings, a startup wellness company, invented a new pre-performance drink that’s all-natural, which promotes blood flow to the muscles, resulting in increased alertness.

  • The company is hopeful consumers could be attracted to it because it is both sugar-free and caffeine-free.
  • Cedarville’s Pharmacy Students are compiling a study using student-athletes, from gamers to runners, to test the effectiveness of the product.
  • The study will be completed by the end of February, with a published study a few weeks later.

So startup wellness company CAHV holdings is developing a new option, that’s all-natural, with no sugar and no caffeine. Gabe Hospelhorn said they’re very optimistic the product is going to shake up the industry.

“The ability to not have that in the drink, but still get the results, is what we view to be a game-changer for many,” Hospelhorn said.

The drink comes in powder form that you blend with 16 ounces of water. It’s amino-acid based and works to promote blood flow — leading to increased muscle function and reaction.

“Pre-performance kicks in as they’re going along,” Hospelhorn said. “It’s extended-release as well. And then it helps and aids in the healing process as well.”

Right now, the product is nameless but is in the research stage at Cedarville University, where pharmacy students are taking data from a wide range of athletes from gamers to runners.

Cedarville associate professor of pharmaceutical sciences, Dr. Rocco Rotello, is in charge of the research on the product. He said casual observations are encouraging, with some of the cross country athletes noticing a difference in their performance while being tested.

He said what is most intriguing is the improvements to cognitive function and reaction time.

“The ability to focus in on your activity of what you’re doing and take it to another level,” Dr. Rotello said.

And because of the improvement in focus, it’s being tested with e-sports athletes as well.

“To be able to help achieve even those milliseconds faster of focus,” This performance drink can certainly help do that.”

Since the product is all-natural, it’s safe for collegiate or professional athletes to take without a performance-enhancing substance violation.

“We’re able to help the person, the athlete, and the gamer to achieve what they want without worrying about their contracts, and worrying about what’s going to come back in my bloodwork later on,” Hospelhorn said.

The research at Cedarville will conclude at the end of February, and results will be published near the end of March. Hospelhorn said once the study is complete, the next steps are to name the drink, and then hopefully sell it.

“We want to be able to take that and demonstrated to investors and build a company and a brand that’s going to make sense for this industry.”
