CLEVELAND, Ohio—Ivy Weingram is curator for “Leonard Bernstein: The Power of Music” exhibit, which has opened at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage in Cleveland.
- An exhibit celebrating the life of composer Leonard Bernstein can be viewed and experienced in Ohio
- The exhibit, which opened at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage in Cleveland, highlights Bernstein’s contributions to the world of music
- The exhibit is on view until March of 2020
The exhibit is dedicated to the life of the legendary composer Leonard Bernstein, who was one of the first born and educated in the U.S. to gain worldwide attention, and was the composer for the classic musical “West Side Story.”
“This exhibition is really a walk-through of particular key moments in his life and the second half of the twentieth century, when he personally felt his faith challenged in a number of ways,” said Weingram.
The three-dimensional experience brings to life Bernstein’s life and work.
“We’re very fortunate in this exhibit to be able to bring to the public a scrapbook that was kept by Samuel Bernstein, Leonard Bernstein’s father, of a number of his son’s achievements through the years,” said Weingram.
And Weingram hopes this exhibit will educate people beyond Bernstein’s impact on the world of music, but the world as a whole—like how he broke barriers by hiring black performers on Broadway.
“You don’t need to come to this exhibition with a strong music background, it’s really a human interest story about one man’s capacity to use his talents, his musical talents, to drive change,” said Weingram.
The exhibit is on view until March of 2020.
