Award-winning journalist, Alese Underwood, joined the Spectrum News Ohio team in February 2023.
A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Alese earned her bachelor’s degree at Chatham University.
Before Alese joined the Spectrum News family, she reported in Shreveport, LA and Erie, PA. In 2014, she joined Spectrum News in San Antonio and Austin, Texas, where she reported on many memorable stories, including hurricanes, floods, wildfires and the tragic mass shooting in the church in Sutherland Springs.
In 2020, Alese joined the Spectrum Bay News 9 team in Tampa, where she focused primarily on military and veteran issues.
Alese is making a new home with her family in Dayton, Ohio. She continues to specialize in military and veterans stories, a topic that comes naturally to her as a military spouse. Alese’s husband proudly serves as an officer in the United States Air Force and is stationed at Wright-Patterson AFB. They have two little girls and a rescue Corgi-mix named Foxy, who are all enjoying everything the area has to offer, especially the snow!
Alese has a passion for giving a voice to people in her community and helping them tell their stories on multiple platforms. You’ll often find her shooting and editing stories on her iPhone and continuing to experiment with different technologies out in the field.
When Alese and her husband are not busy chasing around their toddlers and pup, they enjoy doing cross-fit style workouts. Alese and her family cannot wait to experience fall and all the amazing opportunities the region has to offer!
Don’t hesitate to say hello to Alese on Twitter @AleseU, Instagram @Aleseuh87, or email alese.underwood@charter.com! She’d love to share your story.
