DUBLIN, Ohio — Dublin police will host its third annual "Fill A Cruiser" toy drive next month to ensure area children in need receive Christmas gifts.
“A wonderful way to celebrate the holiday season is by focusing on giving,” Chief Justin Páez said. “Fill A Cruiser is a way for families of first responders and neighbors in need to benefit from their community’s generosity. We saw an exceptional turnout last year, and we look forward to continuing that tradition of philanthropy here in Dublin.”
The toy drive is part of a partnership with the Get Behind the Badge initiative, which provides financial assistance to the families of law enforcement and firefighter personnel who have been killed in the line of duty, said Rebecca Myers, a spokeswoman for the city of Dublin.
Community members who want to participate can drop off unwrapped gifts from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dublin Justice Center on Saturday, Dec. 4, Myers said.
Participants can hand off gifts from their vehicles at a drive-thru outside the Justice Center.
In an effort to get gifts for children of all age groups, organizers are asking people who plan to participate in the toy drive to donate presents to children in two categories: newborn to 10 years old and 11 to 17 years old.
Gift cards are also accepted, Myers said.
Last year, the event received more than 600 toys for families and officials were able to purchase more than 50 winter coats with cash and gift card donations.
