COLUMBUS, Ohio — A lot can happen in a week, especially with the force that is the Columbus Crew fan base.
It’s been a week to the day since the organization announced its rebranding, dropping the “Crew” from the name.
After protests and meetings with the Nordecke, the club's supporters group, the organization announced late Monday it would keep “Crew” in its name.
“Now we can start planning all the joyous things again,” said Nordecke member Eric Neal, who has been a fan of the team since he moved to Columbus 14 years ago.
Neal said there were several things wrong with the rebranding.
“It was taking the Crew out. Everyone said ‘this is a no-go. You can’t do that,’ and beyond that, it was the idea of not working with the supporters.”
Justin Edwards felt just as confused.
“I was just stunned like all the other fans like this can’t be happening,” Edwards said. “We have mojo going into the new stadium. Why do something like this now?”
But after rallying together, the Columbus Crew is officially back.
“I’m really proud to be a supporter of the Crew and everyone that was a part of it,” Neal said.
