MILWAUKEE — Postal workers across the nation took to the streets to protest proposed cuts by the Trump administration. The movement was on full display Sunday at Milwaukee’s main post office.

Dozens of postal workers, including mail carrier Darrion Wyatt, voiced their thoughts over potential changes that could reshape the United States Postal Service.

“I mean, people should be worried,” said Wyatt. “It’s kind of crazy that we have to involve politics with the Postal Service, but that is exactly what’s happening.”

The protest comes amid growing concerns that the administration might replace the Postal Service’s governing board and transfer control to the Commerce Department under Secretary Howard Lutnick.

“We deliver medicine, we deliver letters, we deliver Amazon packages,” said Wyatt. “It’s a vital part of your life because we also deliver a lot of checks–Social Security checks, government checks.”

Roughly 100 demonstrators turned out, including Congresswoman Gwen Moore, to support the protest. Leading the local effort was Rob Kosier, branch president of the National Association of Letter Carriers in Milwaukee.

“It’s really just a bunch of people in Washington D.C. who don’t know what we really do on a daily basis,” said Kosier. “We are the Postal Service. We provide service to people.”

For workers on the front lines, the message they want to get out to the public was clear.

“If you lose us, you basically have a whole United States falling apart,” said Wyatt.
