LORAIN, Ohio — Susan St. Aubyn-Zeyer is wrapping her new chocolate chip ice sandwiches.

“So, we’re using a homemade chocolate chip cookie and then we’re using premium ice cream,” St. Aubyn-Zeyer said.

What You Need To Know

  • The Lorain International Festival runs through June 26

  •  The festival returns to the Black River Landing after a two-year hiatus, because of the COVID-19 pandemic

  • Susan's Sugar & Spice is a vendor representing England

She’s the owner of Susan’s Sugar & Spice, a pastry and candy business. She said she learned the technique of baking from her parents.

“My dad was super creative and I laughingly say I sold my first cake when I was 15,” St. Aubyn-Zeyer said.

The baker comes from an English family. She’s sharing her culture and her confections at the Lorain International Festival, as one of their vendors.

“I’m also a Spanish teacher by trade. I was an exchange student when I was younger, and I had the opportunity to travel to Honduras. So, anything dealing with cultures, I'm just fascinated by,” St. Aubyn-Zeyer said.

Over ten nationalities will be represented at the festival, giving guests a chance to enjoy different delicacies from around the world.

“So, we have very different products than a [sic] traditional festival food or fair food,” St. Aubyn-Zeyer said.

St. Aubyn-Zeyer added that she’ll sell her products out of her new food trailer.

“So, unfortunately for us, when we first started our business at Midway Mall, there were all the stores around us [and they] were open. But, as of about April, all the walking traffic is pretty much tied there. So, in order for us to really still get out and be viable, we decided to take our business on the road,” St. Aubyn-Zeyer said.

The festival was not held in 2020 and 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
