COLUMBUS, Ohio — For the first time since Andre Hill was shot to death by police, his family is speaking out.

But they’re not the only ones calling for justice.

“We’re literally being hunted like prey,” said national activist Sierra Mason.

This is the second protest for Hill she has been to this week — driving from Canton to Columbus both times.

“I have an 18-month-old daughter at home and that could have easily been her,” Mason said. “It could have easily been her mother.”

It was an emotional Saturday night at Brentell Recreation Center as protesters gathered to hear Hill’s family and national civil rights attorney Ben Crump demand justice for his death.

“It wasn’t even a 911 call,” Crump said. “It was a non-emergency call about a noise complaint. So why would officers get out drawing weapons over a noise complaint?”

Hill was shot and killed early Tuesday by Columbus Police Officer Adam Coy. It happened just 17 days after the death of Casey Goodson Jr.

“We didn’t even have the chance to lay the last man down before they shot and killed the next,” said Mason.

Crump is demanding police release the dispatch call. He’s also calling for an independent autopsy to learn how many times Hill was shot.

Crump has represented the families of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and Jacob Blake. It’s something Mason believes should be a wake-up call.

“For it to be so significant that it's getting national and international attention, I feel like, you know, it’s just kind of speaking of the importance and how often it’s happening,” he said.
