“I think it’s exciting that businesses are able to reopen. Cedar Point Breakers is a historic property and really symbolic of Cedar Point and the tourism in this area," said Eric Wobser, Sandusky city manager.
Eric Wobser is the city manager for the City of Sandusky. He says it's vital that the city’s biggest revenue-maker comes back.
“We’re a community that thrives in tourism and when people can’t come to visit that has an impact on our small businesses, it has an impact on the city’s budget, but we have been able to get through it. Our downtown is doing very well with the recent reopenings,“ Wobser said.
Cedar Point is scheduled to open on July 9 for season, gold and platinum passholders only.
Hinesh Patel owns the South Shore Inn, right near the entrance to the amusement park.
“This year's been tough, but we are trying to get things ready to open up this July when Cedar Point opens,” said Patel.
Most hotels around Cedar Point have been closed since last year and then the COVID-19 pandemic kept them closed for months longer. So hotels are just waiting to fill up their rooms.
“We definitely didn’t expect this. We worked with the banks. They’ve been pretty flexible with us. We are usually closed in the off-season. It’s just been a really long winter for us, but we are ready to get back into it and start working again," Patel said.
Sandusky’s city manager says when the park opens in July it will help all the businesses in the area.
“Cedar Point will be a real shot in the arm. It’s gonna be a tough year regardless, but being able to have folks come back to Cedar Point is gonna be a huge boost to the local economy," said Wobser.
